Training Sessions

IMPORTANT

Participation for each week will be limited to the first 250 responses. Sign-ups will go live each week on Wednesday evening before the training session on the following WEDNESDAY. The sign-up sheet will no longer accept responses once 250 students have signed-up. A roster will be sent to school administration after the sign-up link is closed. Late additions will not be permitted. Students not on the roster will not be permitted to stay for training. There are no exceptions. Please understand this is for safety and to reduce confusion for teachers and Kids of Steel coaches and volunteers.

What to expect at training

Sessions begin immediately after school. We end promptly at 4:15pm. Training will take place every WEDNESDAY through March and April.

Parents/guardians must sign up their child EACH WEEK in order for their runner to be included on the training roster. One sign up per child. The permission form link should be completed prior to their first training session. It will only need to be done once.

Parent volunteers are welcome and highly encouraged. See additional info on the volunteer page.

Any child with special needs requiring a helper or individualized attention must have a helper with them during training. Parents will be required to set this up prior to the event.

Training Session Procedure

Notification

A note or email stating your child has permission to stay after school for the event is required to be sent into school each week. Teachers will be given a roster on the day of training. They are instructed to send children home if permission has not been given for them to stay after school.

What to wear?

Make sure children are dressed in comfortable clothes and wearing 'running' shoes or sneakers. Some children will bring clothes to change into but that is not required. If the weather is 60 degrees or above, be prepared to run outside. Water bottles are encouraged but also not required.

Snacks

A small snack will be provided at the beginning of training. If there are allergy issues, feel free to pack a snack for your child. If you have individual concerns, please reach out to us.

Pick Up Procedure

Pick up begins at 4:15 pm. The security guard will keep all parents/guardians in the front entrance until dismissal. For safety purposes, we request that you enter the gym through the cafeteria and then exit across the gym through the far right doors. Volunteers will be there to direct you. If your runner is to attend the YMCA or has an unusual pick up situation, please let us know. Otherwise, an ID will be required for pick-up and must match the name on the sign-up form for the week.
