STAR OF THE WEEK

NEW THIS YEAR!

As we limit the number of after-school practice spots, we’re excited to deepen family involvement in the Kids of Steel mission.

This season, practices will be themed around the core values kids learn through sport, including:

Goal setting • Teamwork • Sportsmanship • Responsibility • Courage • Resilience • Cape-able

Each week, athletes will have the opportunity to be recognized as our ⭐ Star of the Week ⭐ — celebrating not just performance, but character.

Want to nominate your child?
Email Montourkidsofsteel@gmail.com with the subject line “STAR OF THE WEEK” and share how your child has demonstrated that week’s theme.

Selected athletes will be featured on our website and social media, so please include a photo you’re comfortable with us sharing.

Together, we’re building stronger athletes — and even stronger humans.

WEEK 2 PRIZE

A BRUSTERS ICE CREAM PACKAGE!

CAPE-ABLE (SELF-TALK)

What is self talk?

Self talk refers to the way you think and talk about yourself, your inner thoughts and beliefs.

Give an example of negative self-talk. How could negative self-talk impact the way you feel about yourself?

ex: I'm bad at this!

Give an example of positive self-talk. How can positive self-talk boost your confidence and attitude?

ex: I am proud of myself for trying.

Positive self-talk can boost your confidence and raise your self-esteem!

What strategies can we use when we catch ourselves using negative self-talk?

WEEK 1 WINNER

Brooks V.

This is his first year doing Kids of Steel. His older brother has done it a few times in the past and Brooks has been anticipating his turn to participate. Brooks is very active- he loves to run, play sports, and play outdoors with friends.

Here is how he answered the questions using the SMART goal setting approach:

S – Specific: I want to run the whole 1-mile Kids of Steel race without stopping.

M – Measurable: I will know I reached my goal if I finish the mile without stopping.

A – Attainable: I will practice running at Kids of Steel training sessions and when I play outside with my friends.

R – Relevant: This will help me become a stronger runner and keep my body healthy.

T – Timely: I want to do this by race day on May 2, 2026.

Congrats Brooks! You are the winner of a $15 gift card to SAULD Robinson!
